Our History

In 1962, Greenhaven – the pride of the late Harold Parker (who founded Parker Development Company in May 1956) – won the National Association of Homebuilders’ award for the country’s best-planned community. It was the first master-planned community in the State Capitol region, and the first built around a man-made lake.

Greenhaven is located in Sacramento’s Pocket Area and remains a prestigious place to call home to this day.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, brothers Bill and Jim Parker of Parker Development Company, duplicated Greenhaven’s success in south Sacramento’s Riverlake community, and The Parkway in Folsom. Both communities offer nature and biking trails, parks, schools and close proximity to shopping and community amenities.

In 1997, Parker Development Company moved further up Highway 50 and created Serrano, a community nestled in the Sierra Foothills and anchored by a private country club and golf course. Soon after inception, Serrano earned the same best-planned community award as Greenhaven in the 1960s. This gated, master-planned community was chosen over nearly 800 other contenders across the nation for the award. Serrano was designed as a tribute to its setting, which encompasses some of Northern California’s most beautiful landscapes and vistas.

In developing Serrano, Parker Development Company capitalized on the natural contours of the rolling foothills. This community boasts commanding views throughout its 3,500 acres, approximately 1,000 acres of land were earmarked, including mature oak groves and natural creeks, as preserved open space.

Over the years, Parker Development Company has been recognized for its work in protecting natural resources, its pioneering use of recycled water in Northern California for residential irrigation, the preservation and enhancement of natural resources and open space, land planning, community development, wetlands mitigation, environmental sensitivity and overall design.
